Residental Shutters Tweed Heads

Tweed Coast Security & Blinds has measured, supplied and installed custom shutters on the Tweed Coast since 1993. We are a family owned business based in Bogangar, fitting shutters to homes and commercial properties across the region. Every shutter is made to measure in hinged, sliding, bi fold or fixed configurations, with adjustable louvres for control over light, privacy and airflow.

Our range covers three materials. Powder-coated aluminium is lockable, weatherproof and rust-resistant, which suits windows exposed to coastal salt air. Thermalite polymer is water repellent and weatherproof, making it a good fit for bathrooms, patios and verandahs. Basswood gives a smooth timber finish for living areas and bedrooms. We offer free measures and quotes in Kingscliff, Cabarita Beach, Bogangar, Fingal Head, Banora Point, Pottsville and Murwillumbah, and most projects take four to five weeks from consultation to installation.

Shutters for Every Room

Shutters are versatile and can be used in various rooms throughout your home. Here's how different types of shutters can enhance different areas:

  • Living Room: Plantation shutters add elegance to your living room while providing excellent light control. They allow you to let in natural light during the day and block it out for privacy at night.
  • Bedroom: For maximum privacy and light control, consider timber or PVC shutters. These materials are ideal for creating a peaceful, comfortable environment in your bedroom, ensuring a good night's sleep.
  • Kitchen: In the kitchen, shutters can withstand heat and humidity. They are easy to clean and maintain, making them a practical choice for this high-traffic area.
  • Bathroom: Shutters are perfect for bathrooms as they offer privacy without sacrificing style. Choose waterproof options like aluminium or PVC for moisture-resistant solutions.
  • Outdoor Spaces: Shutters can also be used for outdoor areas to provide shade and privacy. Our range of outdoor shutters is ideal for patios, verandas and balconies, allowing you to enjoy your outdoor space in comfort.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long do shutters last for?

These are some of the longest-lasting window  furnishings and most shutters last well beyond their rated life with the correct care.

  • What are the best type of shutters for my home?

There are many factors to consider when deciding on shutters. These factors can include, light control, window access, privacy control, heat control and the aesthetic you want to achieve.

Call us today and our professional technicians will be able to advise you further on what type of shutters are the best choice for you. We can show you the different options from Aluminium, Thermalite and Basswood.

  • How long does it take to install shutters?

From the initial consultation to the complete installation, the process usually takes around four to five weeks.

The timescale of your project will depend on what type of shutters you choose and what material, but the installation process is quick and efficient.

  • Do you install shutters in Kingscliff and surrounding areas?

Yes! We proudly service the entire Tweed Coast region, including Kingscliff, Cabarita Beach, Bogangar, Fingal Head, Banora Point, Pottsville, and Murwillumbah. Contact us today to arrange a free measure and quote at your property.

  • What shutters are best for coastal homes?

For coastal homes, aluminium shutters are an excellent choice as they are rust-resistant, weatherproof and low-maintenance — ideal for the salt air and humidity of the Tweed Coast. PVC and Thermalite shutters are also popular for their moisture resistance and durability in coastal conditions.

  • How much do plantation shutters cost on the Tweed Coast?

Plantation shutter prices depend on the material, window size, configuration and number of windows being covered. Aluminium, Thermalite polymer and basswood each have different pricing, as do hinged, sliding, bifold and fixed designs. Because our shutters are custom made, we recommend a free home measure and quote for accurate pricing, with no hidden costs.

  • Can you pair plantation shutters with curtains?

Yes, plantation shutters and curtains work well together. Shutters provide adjustable light control, privacy and airflow, while curtains add softness, colour and another layer of insulation. We also supply curtains and softshades, so we can help you coordinate both window treatments during the same consultation for a consistent look throughout your home.

  • Do I need to measure my windows for shutters?

No, you don't need to measure your windows yourself. We take precise measurements during our free in-home consultation because custom shutters need an accurate fit, and even small measuring errors can affect installation. You're also welcome to visit our showroom at 88 Hastings Road, Bogangar, to explore the available materials and styles before arranging your measure and quote.

  • Are shutters or blinds better?

Neither is automatically better. Shutters offer durable construction, adjustable louvres, additional privacy and insulation, with some designs also providing added security. Blinds generally have a lower upfront cost and offer more fabric, colour and light-filtering options. We supply both, so our free measure and quote is an opportunity to compare what suits your rooms, budget and preferences.

  • Do shutters keep out the rain?

Aluminium and Thermalite shutters can help protect outdoor areas from wind and rain, making them practical choices for Tweed Coast patios, verandahs and decks. Thermalite is also water repellent and weatherproof. Closing the louvres can reduce the amount of rain blowing into a space, but shutters are not a fully sealed barrier against heavy storms or wind-driven rain.
